Mercedes-AMG will fully replace the current four-cylinder C 43 with the new C 53, powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine producing 443 horsepower and 560 Nm of peak torque—without any hybrid system. Michael Schiebe, AMG’s interim CEO, confirmed that this move aims to address low market acceptance of four-cylinder high-performance vehicles and the challenges posed by the upcoming Euro 7 emissions regulations. The C 53 Estate has already been spotted undergoing road testing and is expected to launch in 2028. Meanwhile, the current plug-in hybrid four-cylinder C 63 will be discontinued, with plans to eventually reintroduce a V8-powered version. AMG has already developed a Euro 7-compliant 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which is likely to debut first in the CLE 63 before being introduced in the next-generation C 63.
