In February 2026, data on first-time registrations of new private cars in Hong Kong revealed the strong dominance of Chinese brands in the market. Tesla topped the chart with 1,001 units, followed closely by BYD with 714 units—combined, they accounted for nearly 40% of total registrations among the top 20 brands. Aion (352 units), Zeekr (291 units), and XPeng (219 units) ranked third to fifth, respectively, narrowly ahead of sixth-place Toyota (214 units). Seven of the top ten spots were occupied by Chinese brands, including Dongfeng Yipai, Maxus, and smart. BMW and Mercedes-Benz ranked eighth and ninth with 144 and 135 units, respectively. Overall, Chinese brands claimed 13 out of the top 20 positions. Traditional internal combustion engine brands such as Honda, Nissan, Suzuki, and Porsche each registered fewer than 100 units, reflecting a significant decline in their market presence.
