In the ranking of China's top ten domestic passenger vehicle wholesale sales for February 2026, Chinese自主品牌 (domestic brands) dominated seven spots and swept the top six positions. Geely led the pack with 206,000 units sold, followed closely by BYD, Chery, Changan, SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle, Great Wall Motor, and SAIC-GM-Wuling. Tesla China ranked seventh with 59,000 units sold, marking a remarkable year-over-year surge of 91% and making it the fastest-growing automaker. The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) noted that robust export performance and an "integrated domestic-international" development model have been key to domestic brands' leadership, alongside continuous breakthroughs in intelligent technologies and new energy vehicles. In contrast, only FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen from the joint-venture camp made it into the top ten, as traditional JV brands collectively face mounting pressure amid their transition to electrification, resulting in steadily shrinking market share. Analysts believe future competition will center on multidimensional capabilities, including technology, globalization, cost control, and financial innovation.
