Bugatti has recently completed a comprehensive restoration of a special Veyron prototype. Although this car was not the one that set the 2010 production car speed record of 431 km/h (267.8 mph), it played a crucial role in paving the way for that achievement. Originally designated “Pre-Series 2.1,” the prototype was used for testing and global media demonstrations, accumulating over 70,000 kilometers before passing into private ownership. Following a six-month refurbishment, the vehicle now features a unique “Super Sport World Record Car Edition” livery—black and orange with exposed carbon fiber—and has been fitted with select components from the production-spec Super Sport. However, its original 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission remain untouched. Notably, this car is neither part of the exclusive five-unit World Record Edition nor one of the standard 450 Veyrons produced, making it a one-of-a-kind historical artifact. While this restoration slightly dilutes the Veyron’s overall rarity, its distinctive provenance could significantly enhance its future value.
