Tesla has recently been granted a patent for a "vehicle seat system," which is expected to be featured in the second-generation Roadster, an all-electric supercar slated for its debut on April 1, 2026. The new seat features a monocoque, single-piece frame design that integrates the base, backrest, headrest, and lateral supports, significantly reducing traditional metal fasteners to cut weight while enhancing structural rigidity. Constructed from carbon-nylon and Kevlar-nylon composite materials, the seat also incorporates a "monolithic flexible hinge" to replace conventional metal gears, enabling dynamic support with localized flexibility and overall stiffness. The adjustment system ditches motors and sliding rails in favor of compact multi-axis actuators, allowing precise six-degree-of-freedom adjustments for an improved driving and riding experience.
