At the High-Level Forum on Intelligent and Electric Vehicle Development held on March 13, 2026, Academician Ouyang Minggao of the Chinese Academy of Sciences stated that current electric vehicles (EVs) already offer sufficiently excellent performance, and consumers do not need to wait for solid-state batteries. He explained that the industrialization of solid-state batteries will proceed in three generations: from 2025 to 2027, the focus will be on sulfide-based all-solid-state batteries with graphite and low-silicon anodes; from 2027 to 2030, the industry will shift toward high-silicon anodes; and between 2030 and 2035, lithium-metal anode technology will be realized. Ouyang revealed that vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries will begin testing by the end of this year, but mass production will still require three to five years. Initial products aim for an energy density of 300–350 Wh/kg. He emphasized that while there is currently marketing hype in the market, no truly available models for purchase exist yet, and he advised consumers to avoid buying such vehicles over the next two years.
