BMW plans to launch 40 new models by the end of 2027, including a China-specific version of the next-generation X5, internally codenamed G78. Unlike the global G65 model, the Chinese variant is highly likely to continue the current G18’s long-wheelbase strategy—the locally produced X5 currently features a wheelbase of 3,105 mm, which is 130 mm longer than the standard version. Reports indicate that the new standard X5 will have an extended wheelbase of 3,035 mm, and the China-exclusive version is expected to be stretched even further, offering more luxurious rear seating space and enhanced features. Additionally, a long-wheelbase iX3 (codenamed NA6) based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform will make its global debut at next month’s Beijing Auto Show. Production of the China-specific X5 is scheduled to begin in January 2027 and will continue at BMW’s Dadong plant.
