Following a fatal incident, Hyundai has suspended sales of the 2026 Palisade Limited and Calligraphy trims—its two highest-end models—and plans to recall a total of 68,500 SUVs in the U.S. and Canada. The recall stems from a safety defect in the second- and third-row power seats, which may fail to detect occupants or obstacles. On March 7, a young child in Ohio died as a result of this issue; the incident remains under investigation. Hyundai expressed its deepest condolences to the family and stated it is developing a permanent fix. In the meantime, the company will deploy a temporary over-the-air (OTA) software update by the end of March to enhance the system’s responsiveness to contact and improve overall safety. Owners have already been notified via phone and email to use the affected seat functions with caution.
