Recently, a video filmed at a Love’s gas station has sparked widespread discussion online. In the footage, a red Ford Explorer is seen towing a large recreational vehicle (RV), with its rear end visibly sagging—suggesting severe overloading. The person who recorded the video, Cedar Sense, questioned, “I’m not sure if it’s safe to tow like this.” While some speculated the vehicle “might be equipped with a towing package,” numerous commenters reported having seen the same vehicle driving slowly on highways—sometimes as slow as 45 mph in an 80-mph zone. Critics pointed out that the towing setup lacked a weight-distributing hitch and anti-sway control systems, posing significant safety risks. Experts warned that overloading while towing can drastically increase braking distance, cause transmission overheating, and potentially trigger dangerous “trailer sway.” According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), vehicles towing trailers are involved in accidents at twice the rate of non-towing vehicles. Always verify your vehicle’s towing capacity and ensure proper safety equipment before hitting the road.
