Arizona man Patrick Haral recently shared on TikTok his experience of having his car damaged by a passenger exiting a Waymo autonomous vehicle. The incident occurred when a Waymo vehicle was parked in a non-designated area, and a passenger—approximately 10 years old—suddenly opened the door, scratching Haral’s car. The vehicle’s system then instructed the passenger to “exit and leave,” preventing Haral from obtaining the other party’s information. Haral said that over the following 10 days, he repeatedly contacted Waymo’s insurance department and filled out forms, but no one followed up. Only after he posted a video on TikTok—which garnered over 50,000 views—did Waymo proactively reach out to apologize and ask him to stop posting about the incident. Online commenters generally advised him to file a claim through his own insurance or hire a lawyer, but he insisted on pursuing justice himself. It remains unclear how the incident was ultimately resolved.
