Escalating tensions in the Middle East have triggered a natural gas supply crunch, now impacting India's automotive manufacturing sector. Suppliers of key components for automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra are facing production pressures due to the "gas shortage," with factory utilization rates at Tata and Mahindra already falling below normal levels. As a critical energy source, the natural gas shortfall is disrupting core manufacturing processes like melting and heat treatment, heightening supply chain risks. Hindalco Industries has already issued a "force majeure" notice to its customers, warning of potential supply disruptions. Numerous auto component manufacturers are closely monitoring their natural gas inventories and assessing the stability of future production. Should the supply constraints persist, vehicle production schedules could face further curtailments in the coming weeks.
