Escalating tensions in the Middle East have tightened natural gas supplies, impacting India's automotive manufacturing sector. Key automakers—including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra—are facing production pressures as some of their component suppliers grapple with a "gas shortage," with certain factories already operating below normal capacity utilization levels. Hindalco Industries, a supplier to Mahindra, recently issued a force majeure notice, warning that natural gas shortages could disrupt its deliveries—a clear sign of rising supply chain risks. India’s auto industry heavily relies on natural gas for critical processes such as melting and heat treatment. If the supply crunch persists, vehicle production schedules could face further constraints in the coming weeks. Multiple component manufacturers are closely monitoring their natural gas inventories and allocation to assess the stability of future production.
