Volkswagen China recently officially responded to rumors about Škoda's exit from the Chinese market, confirming that Škoda will cease new vehicle sales in China by mid-2026 but will continue providing warranty coverage and after-sales services for existing owners. The decision stems from Škoda’s global strategic realignment, with the brand shifting its focus toward high-growth markets such as India and ASEAN countries. Škoda entered the Chinese market in 2006, reaching a peak annual sales volume of 341,000 units in 2018. However, in recent years, its market share has steadily declined due to the rise of domestic Chinese brands and the industry-wide shift toward new energy vehicles. Volkswagen Group emphasized that despite Škoda’s withdrawal, its long-term commitment to the Chinese market remains unchanged—currently operating nearly 40 plants in China and serving over 50 million customers.
