On March 26, Volkswagen Group China announced that its Škoda brand will cease vehicle sales in the Chinese market by mid-2026. Since entering China in 2007, Škoda has sold over 3 million vehicles cumulatively. Despite exiting sales in China, Volkswagen emphasized that China remains central to its global strategy—boasting nearly 40 plants in the country, serving more than 50 million customers, and hosting its largest R&D center outside Germany, which focuses on intelligent connectivity technologies. Going forward, Škoda will redirect resources toward high-growth markets such as India and ASEAN. Volkswagen assured existing Škoda owners in China that they will continue to receive full warranty coverage and after-sales services. This strategic adjustment aims to optimize global resource allocation in response to rapidly evolving market dynamics.
