On April 24, 2024, during the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, MediaTek held a media briefing to unveil its active-agent cockpit solution based on the Dimensity Auto platform, an in-vehicle AAA gaming and entertainment system, and cutting-edge automotive connectivity technologies. Built on a 3nm process node, the flagship C-X1 chip delivers up to 400 TOPS of multimodal AI computing power and integrates NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPU architecture with DLSS and ray tracing technologies, enabling 4K graphics rendering at 60 FPS. The active-agent cockpit features multimodal interaction capabilities, capable of interpreting ambiguous voice commands and proactively delivering services by sensing driver and passenger states through visual, auditory, and tactile inputs. For instance, upon detecting driver fatigue, the system can automatically adjust the seat position, play relaxing music, and recommend nearby service areas. It reminds occupants to bring sun umbrellas and drinking water when exiting the vehicle in hot weather and can proactively plan pick-up/drop-off routes based on user habits while pushing relevant traffic updates. The system supports concurrent multitasking, simultaneously handling navigation requests from the driver, restaurant recommendations for the front passenger, and rear-seat multimedia playback. In terms of connectivity, the platform integrates 5G-Advanced, 3GPP NR NTN satellite communication, and Wi-Fi 7 technologies, enabling stable satellite-based video calls even in terrestrial network dead zones. MediaTek also announced that its Wi-Fi 8 automotive connectivity platform will be deployed in vehicles later this year. On the software ecosystem front, the Dimensity Auto platform offers the NeuroPilot SDK toolkit, enabling efficient deployment of large models on edge NPUs and supporting standard protocols such as MCP and SKILL to facilitate rapid integration of cloud-based services like maps, social networking, and payments. Its Multi-Process Service (MPS) technology enhances GPU resource scheduling efficiency, boosting throughput for multi-model tasks by 50%. Regarding mass production progress, Chery’s Fulwin T9L—equipped with the Dimensity Cockpit S1 Ultra chip—made its debut at the auto show, supporting local execution of large language models with up to 1.3 billion parameters and driving up to 10 displays simultaneously. The Changan Qiyuan Q05 and Deepal L06, powered by the P1 Ultra and S1 Ultra chips respectively, are bringing premium AI experiences to vehicles priced between RMB 100,000 and 150,000. To date, the Dimensity Auto platform has shipped over 35 million units globally, adopted by more than 20 automakers worldwide, with cumulative revenue projected to exceed USD 3 billion by 2028. Additionally, MediaTek revealed it is developing a 2nm automotive cockpit chip, which will further enhance AI performance and energy efficiency.
