On January 14, the main structure of Aptiv’s Electrical Distribution Systems Wuhan manufacturing plant and R&D center project was topped out, with full-scale production expected to commence in the third quarter of this year. Located in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone’s Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park, the project is being developed by Wuhan Jingkai Industrial Investment Group. Spanning a total area of 36,600 square meters, it marks Aptiv’s first wiring harness manufacturing facility outside its Shanghai headquarters. The plant will focus on developing and producing key components for electric vehicles, including high-voltage wiring harnesses, high-voltage charging connectors, and cables. From land acquisition to groundbreaking, the project took only 37 days, thanks to streamlined approval processes facilitated by the investment group. The facility and its supporting infrastructure were custom-built according to the company’s specific requirements, ensuring equipment installation and trial production can begin as early as the second quarter. Once fully operational, the project is expected to create approximately 3,000 jobs, strengthen the local automotive supply chain, and better serve vehicle manufacturers across Central China.
