2026-02-05 11:25:00According to data from Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), BYD sold 2,629 new vehicles in Germany in January, a surge of over 1,000% compared to the same period last year—far exceeding the 235 units sold in January 2023—and more than double Tesla’s 1,301 registrations during the same month. As Europe’s largest electric vehicle market, Germany is becoming a critical battleground for Chinese automakers expanding overseas. In addition to BYD, other Chinese brands such as MG, Leapmotor, and XPeng are also steadily expanding their presence, intensifying competitive pressure on domestic automakers like Volkswagen and BMW. Meanwhile, Tesla’s overall performance in Europe remains weak: its German sales rose only marginally by 1.9% in January, while markets like France and Norway saw significant declines.
