On February 20, Tesla announced that its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised Beta has surpassed a cumulative global mileage of 8 billion miles (approximately 12.875 billion kilometers). Data shows that FSD-equipped vehicles experience one serious collision every 5.3 million miles—significantly outperforming human-driven vehicles. For comparison, Tesla vehicles with active safety systems enabled record one serious accident every 2.18 million miles, while those without the system experience one every 860,000 miles. The U.S. national average stands at one serious accident every 660,000 miles. During the reporting period, FSD recorded 830 serious collisions—far fewer than the 16,131 serious collisions recorded by manually driven Teslas with safety systems enabled. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously stated that achieving unsupervised autonomous driving requires accumulating 10 billion miles of real-world driving data. Reaching the current milestone of 8 billion miles not only validates FSD’s scalability but also provides a rich dataset of diverse driving scenarios to further refine and optimize its algorithms.
