Despite the all-new Audi RS5 Avant’s weight soaring to 2,370 kg due to its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system—775 kg heavier than the original 1994 RS2 Avant and 625 kg more than the previous-generation RS4 Avant—Audi Sport insists the new model remains “agile and nimble.” The company explains that while the PHEV system and larger body significantly increase mass, optimized tuning compensates for this added weight. Additionally, optional ceramic brakes can reduce weight by approximately 30 kg. As Audi Sport’s first plug-in hybrid performance car, the RS5 paves the way for the upcoming PHEV-powered RS6 Avant, aiming to meet European emissions regulations while balancing performance and electrification demands.
