German BMW tuning specialist AC Schnitzer has announced it will cease production of aftermarket parts for BMW and Mini vehicles by the end of 2026. Founded in 1987 by Herbert Kohl and Willi Lammert, the brand became renowned for its tuning solutions that balanced OEM-quality craftsmanship with performance enhancements, notably producing iconic models like the ACS3 Sport based on the E30 M3. The company cited Germany’s stringent vehicle certification procedures—causing significant product launch delays—as well as rising raw material costs, currency fluctuations, supply chain pressures, and declining market interest in internal combustion engine vehicles as key factors making continued operations unsustainable. Going forward, parent company Kohl Group will focus exclusively on new car and motorcycle sales and service. AC Schnitzer is currently in talks with potential buyers regarding the sale of the brand, and existing inventory will remain available for purchase until the end of 2026. After-sales support and warranty services will also continue as committed.
