Amid surging oil prices driven by Middle East conflicts, demand for electric vehicles (EVs) has soared, prompting BYD to raise its overseas sales target for 2026 from 1.3 million to 1.5 million units—an increase of 15%. Chairman Wang Chuanfu revealed during a non-public meeting on March 30 that daily sales in markets such as Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines have already reached the combined total of the previous two weeks. The company also plans to begin building ultra-fast charging stations overseas starting in 2027. Although BYD declined to comment on the report, it is clearly benefiting from shifting global energy dynamics. In the first two months of this year, China’s exports of new energy vehicles surged by over 110% year-on-year, reaching 583,000 units. Analysts note that high oil prices are accelerating the transition to electrification in many countries, creating significant opportunities for Chinese automakers to expand into overseas markets.
