Recently, a Tesla Model S P85+ purchased in 2014 has set a new global record for the highest mileage ever achieved by an electric vehicle—surpassing 2.7 million kilometers. Originally owned by German driver Hansjörg Gemmingen, the car has been primarily used for long-distance travel since its purchase. It reached 1 million kilometers in 2019, surpassed 2 million kilometers in April 2024, and added another 700,000 kilometers over the past year alone. Remarkably, its original battery retained 85% of its health even after nearly 1 million kilometers, and the original motor remained stable after operating for over 1.11 million kilometers. Tesla’s proprietary Battery Management System (BMS), highly efficient hairpin-wound motors, and optimized tri-motor electric powertrain technologies have significantly slowed battery degradation. According to Tesla’s "2024 Impact Report," Model 3 and Model Y vehicles retain over 80% of their original battery capacity on average after driving 320,000 kilometers, validating Tesla’s design philosophy that “battery lifespan exceeds the vehicle’s usable life.”
