Nissan is in talks with Chinese automaker Chery regarding the potential production of Chery vehicles at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK. The factory is currently operating at around 50% capacity, and the central aim of the negotiations is to boost its utilization. In addition to Chery, Nissan is also exploring similar cooperation arrangements with other companies to enhance production efficiency. The discussions are still at an early stage, and no final agreement has been reached. Previously, Nissan agreed to sell the manufacturing assets of its Rosslyn plant in South Africa to a local business entity established by Chery. Subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions, Chery’s South African subsidiary plans to take over the plant’s land, buildings, related assets, and nearby stamping facilities by mid-2026.
