On May 6, Geely Auto and Ford Motor Company reached an agreement for Geely to acquire Ford’s Body3 assembly line at its Almussafes plant in Valencia, Spain. Geely plans to use this production line to manufacture a new energy vehicle based on its Global Electric Architecture (GEA), internally codenamed “135.” The model will be offered in three powertrain variants: hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and battery electric vehicle (BEV). The “135”-codenamed vehicle is likely the EX2, a compact all-electric SUV measuring 4,135 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. It will be available with two battery options—30.1 kWh and 40.1 kWh—delivering CLTC-rated ranges of 310 km and 410 km, respectively. The rear-mounted electric motor will offer outputs of 58 kW or 85 kW. Additionally, Ford may launch a co-developed model based on Geely’s GEA platform, potentially serving as the successor to the Puma. If realized, this collaboration could restore the Valencia plant’s annual production capacity to pre-pandemic levels of over 300,000 units, securing employment for its current workforce of more than 4,000 employees and creating new job opportunities. This move will further strengthen Geely and Ford’s cooperation in the global new energy vehicle sector.
