The BMW Z4 has entered the end-of-production phase. Production for the European market concluded in March 2026, while the final batch for the U.S. market was completed in April at Magna Steyr’s plant in Graz, Austria. BMW had already confirmed in November 2025 that the G29-generation Z4 would be discontinued, launching a Final Edition model as its farewell. Despite being on the verge of discontinuation, global deliveries of the Z4 reached 2,555 units in the first quarter of 2026, up 4.9% year-over-year. However, it remains the second-lowest-selling model in BMW’s lineup, ahead only of the XM (which recorded 1,458 deliveries in the same period, down 17.6% year-over-year). Since its launch in late 2018, Z4 sales have declined annually: deliveries peaked at 15,827 units in 2019 and then fell consecutively—14,982 in 2020, 14,778 in 2021, 12,029 in 2022, 10,957 in 2023, 10,482 in 2024, and further down to 9,744 in 2025. BMW is now shifting its focus to the Neue Klasse platform, planning to introduce around 40 new or significantly updated models by the end of 2027, including the i1 hatchback, i2 sedan, and a rugged-style SUV. In the near term, there are no plans to revive the Z-series roadster in either combustion-engine or all-electric form. BMW has not entirely abandoned two-door models—the current 2 Series Coupe, 4 Series Coupe, and 4 Series Convertible are expected to remain in production until 2029. Additionally, the i4 Coupe project, codenamed “NA2,” has been approved. Although Z4 production has ended, existing inventory will continue to support sales, and deliveries are expected to appear in quarterly figures throughout the remainder of 2026.
