Huawei, JAC Motors, and Stellantis Group along with its Maserati brand are currently in talks to jointly develop new energy vehicles (NEVs) under the Maserati name. Although no formal agreement has been signed yet, related R&D work has already commenced. The collaboration follows Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance ("Five Jie" model): Huawei leads product definition and provides full-stack core technologies including intelligent cockpit, autonomous driving, and electric drive systems; JAC participates in co-development and handles manufacturing through its Zunjie Super Factory; Maserati is responsible for styling design and brand licensing. The resulting vehicles will adopt a "dual-badge" strategy—bearing the Zunjie badge in the Chinese market and the Maserati badge overseas. This partnership stems from the challenges faced by Stellantis and Maserati in their electrification transition. Stellantis reported a staggering €22.3 billion loss in 2025, while Maserati has posted significant losses for two consecutive years, with its profit margin plunging to -27.3% in 2025. Sales-wise, Maserati saw a 57% year-over-year decline in 2024, followed by another 30% drop in 2025. Its all-electric Folgore series, based on a retrofitted ICE platform ("oil-to-electric" conversion), employs a conservative technical approach and has received poor market reception. Additionally, Maserati’s retail prices in China—once its largest single market—have sharply declined, further intensifying its operational pressures. Previously, Stellantis achieved initial success by taking a stake in Leapmotor; this new collaboration with Huawei is seen as an extension of that strategic approach. Huawei’s cooperation with automakers operates across three tiers: component supply, HI (Huawei Inside) full-stack technology solutions, and the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Smart Selection vehicle model. The Harmony Intelligent Mobility ecosystem currently encompasses five brands: Aito (with Seres), Luxeed (with Chery), Maxus EV (with BAIC), Zunjie (with JAC), and Shangjie (with SAIC).
