The seventh-generation BMW 3 Series (G20/G21) is set to be discontinued, as BMW has already released a teaser for the all-new eighth-generation 3 Series (G50). Ahead of the current model’s phase-out, BMW is offering a new "Dark Night" package for the M340i and M340d sedan and Touring (G21) variants. In Europe, this package is exclusively available as an option on M Sport models and includes high-gloss black kidney grilles, black chrome exhaust tips, darkened headlight accents, and red brake calipers—available regardless of exterior color. Interior features include carbon fiber dashboard trim and seat belts with M tri-color stitching. In Germany, the package costs €2,500 as an optional extra. Additionally, the Dark Night package is also available for other six-cylinder models, including the 4 Series Gran Coupé M440i, M440d, and the all-electric i4 M60. The i4, part of the G26 model family, is expected to be gradually phased out between late 2026 and early 2027, with its successor—the all-electric i3 sedan—already officially unveiled. The eighth-generation 3 Series will make its global debut in the coming months and will be produced at BMW’s Dingolfing plant. The current M340i will be replaced by the more powerful M350, while the M340d diesel variant is unlikely to have a direct successor. The next-generation 3 Series Touring will include a fully electric version (internal codename NA1), and BMW also plans to launch combustion-engine variants—the gasoline- and diesel-powered G51 Touring—expected as early as 2027.
