Recently, a Huawei Aito M9 caught fire while driving in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. According to an official on-site investigation, the fire was caused by the vehicle colliding with a large metal component that had fallen from the preceding vehicle. The foreign object became lodged underneath the car’s chassis and, as it was dragged along the road surface, generated friction that ignited the fire. Prior to the incident, operational data from the vehicle’s triple electric systems (battery, motor, and electronic control) were normal, with no battery malfunction detected. All occupants safely evacuated, and there were no injuries. The official statement highlighted that the Huawei "Giant Whale" battery installed in the vehicle demonstrated multiple layers of safety protection during the accident. The battery features dual protection through both materials and structural design: its internal cell layout has been optimized, with aerospace-grade aerogel filling the gaps between cells, complemented by high-temperature-resistant mica plates and nano-ceramic thermal insulation layers—forming a comprehensive 15-layer protective structure. This design effectively prevents thermal runaway propagation even if some cells are damaged. Additionally, the latest Aito M9 model has been upgraded in terms of underbody impact resistance, sealing against water ingress, and electrical insulation, significantly enhancing its resistance to undercarriage abrasion.
