2026-06-06 21:18:10Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) President Yasuji Watanabe announced that the Civic Type R HRC Concept is being advanced toward production. The model was first unveiled during a Type R owners’ event held in May 2024 at Mobility Resort Motegi. Watanabe indicated that its launch is now just “around 100 days away,” though it remains under development. The production version will feature significant exterior changes, with a completely redesigned front end—its bumper and fenders distinctly different from the current model. The front fenders adopt wide, square wheel arches inspired by Super GT race cars, while the front lip, side skirts, and rear diffuser have been styled more aggressively. The rear wing’s profile has also been revised, although its changes are less pronounced than those at the front. Chassis and suspension upgrades are among the key development priorities. Honda drivers Ayumu Iwasa, Takuma Sato, and Hiroki Otsu have already participated in testing sessions at Suzuka Circuit, using heavily camouflaged prototypes. Sato specifically highlighted improvements in body rigidity and suspension stiffness on the development car. The widened front fenders are expected to accommodate staggered tire setups—different sizes front and rear—to enhance front-end grip. Watanabe emphasized that this model is far more than just an appearance package; it is a significantly more hardcore performance vehicle. Additionally, certain components featured on the concept car will be offered as aftermarket parts in the U.S. market, allowing existing owners to upgrade their vehicles through official channels—even if the full production model isn’t sold locally.
