On July 2, at the Chinese debut launch event of the MONA L03, He Xiaopeng, Chairman of XPeng Inc., stated that China plays a central role in shaping global regulations for autonomous driving technologies. Specifically, under the ADSGTR regulation issued by the United Nations, China’s intelligent driver-assistance systems have already reached world-leading levels. This regulation covers autonomous driving technologies from Level 2 (L2) to Level 5 (L5), with L2-level standards set to take effect globally this December—a move that will support XPeng’s global expansion. He Xiaopeng also mentioned that during the recent Two Sessions, he had proposed that China skip Level 3 (L3) and accelerate its advancement toward Levels 4 and 5. He noted that although there were doubts about the feasibility of L4/L5 autonomous driving two years ago, rapid advancements in AI—particularly physical AI—over the past two years have significantly accelerated progress in the field. He predicts that within the next three to five years, L4 and L5 autonomous driving will achieve safe, efficient, and seamless operation across all scenarios, progressing faster than expected.
