The new Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series has debuted overseas and is once again accepting orders in the Australian market. Retaining the classic design from the 1980s, this update primarily addresses emissions compliance for the powertrain. To meet Australia’s Euro 6d emissions standards, the vehicle is now equipped with a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine and features a new 20-liter AdBlue tank. The AdBlue system reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by injecting urea into the exhaust stream. On the double-cab chassis variant, the AdBlue filler cap is located on the left front fender, while on the single-cab chassis, it is positioned between the cab and the rear wheels. Engine output remains unchanged: maximum power of 150 kW (at 3,000–3,400 rpm) and peak torque of 500 N·m (at 1,600–2,800 rpm). Currently, only a six-speed automatic transmission is offered. The previous five-speed manual transmission variants—including the 78 Series and 79 Series double-cab chassis models and the 76 Series GXL—are temporarily unavailable. Toyota has not confirmed whether manual transmission models have been permanently discontinued, stating only that their return date remains undetermined. Additionally, the fuel tank capacity of the 78 Series Troop Carrier has been reduced from 180 liters to 130 liters, aligning it with other 70 Series models. The current 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine replaces the 4.5-liter turbo-diesel V8 previously supplied until mid-2024. Toyota had temporarily suspended orders for certain 70 Series variants in 2025 to adjust its supply strategy in response to customer demand but has now resumed taking orders.
