Amid prolonged high temperatures in Chongqing recently, multiple XPeng X9 vehicles have experienced air suspension failures. Owners reported that after driving out of underground parking garages, their vehicles' air suspensions began leaking air, causing the body to sink on one side or entirely, impairing normal driving. Some owners believe the malfunction is directly linked to the extreme heat. One owner of the Extended-Range MAX variant stated that the air suspension failed suddenly at highway speeds when the vehicle had only 1,552 kilometers on the odometer, and the issue recurred again after repairs once the mileage reached 2,500 kilometers. In response, XPeng customer service explained that in high-temperature conditions, frequent manual or automatic adjustments of the air suspension height could trigger the suspension compressor's thermal protection mechanism, prompting a dashboard warning message reading "Overheated – Adjustment Unavailable." They advised owners to let the vehicle sit idle to cool down; once the compressor temperature returns to normal, the system typically resumes regular operation. However, if the problem persists, the vehicle should be brought to a service center for inspection. The customer service representative also noted that the XPeng X9’s air suspension features intelligent adaptive adjustment, automatically modifying ride height during driving, and that high ambient temperatures are one of the factors that can induce thermal protection activation.
