Stellantis announced it will cease production of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models in North America starting with the 2026 model year, officially exiting the local plug-in hybrid market. The company stated it will redirect resources toward more competitive electrification pathways, including hybrid electric vehicles (badged as "Blue" in China) and range-extended electric technologies. These PHEVs were once among the best-selling plug-in hybrids in the U.S., but have faced frequent recalls in recent years due to quality issues—such as a November 2025 recall urging owners not to charge indoors over battery fire risks. Declining demand, coupled with the elimination of the federal $7,500 EV tax credit for these models, along with relaxed fuel economy standards and eased California zero-emission vehicle sales requirements, has reduced regulatory pressure on automakers. This year, Stellantis plans to launch the Ram 1500 REV pickup and Jeep Grand Wagoneer SUV featuring range-extender technology, marking its initial foray into this new electrification strategy.
