Genesis G70 May Live On: Certification Completed for Potential Second Facelift

The Genesis G70, previously rumored to be discontinued in 2027, may have received a reprieve. According to South Korean media reports, the model has recently completed emissions and noise certification in Korea, suggesting preparations for a second mid-cycle refresh. This move is likely aimed at complying with stricter crash safety regulations. Although Genesis previously denied plans for an immediate discontinuation of the G70, it has yet to confirm whether a second-generation model will be developed. The current G70 is offered with two engine options: a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (300 hp) and a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 (365 hp). Rear-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option, both paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The manual transmission variant has already been discontinued. It remains unclear whether the refreshed model will feature exterior updates. Some reports suggest the retesting could be due to increased vehicle weight. While this update may extend the G70’s lifecycle, Genesis is expected to continue shifting its focus toward crossover SUVs, given prevailing market preferences.
