Stellantis has officially halted the launch of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models in the North American market, shifting its focus instead to conventional hybrids, range-extended electric vehicles, and battery-electric technologies. This move means production will end for the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Chrysler Pacifica PHEV. Although the Dodge Hornet PHEV was previously paused due to tariff issues, customers can still configure the Pacifica PHEV for now—though Jeep has already removed PHEV options from its official website. The company stated it will continue offering electrified powertrains in the U.S., such as the new hybrid system debuting in the 2026 Jeep Cherokee. This system pairs a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with dual electric motors and an e-CVT transmission, supported by a small 1.08 kWh battery, delivering 210 horsepower. Additionally, Jeep is moving forward with sales of its all-electric SUV, the Recon. Analysts note that frequent recalls of the Jeep 4xe lineup and low real-world charging rates among users have prompted Stellantis to revise its electrification strategy.
