In 2025, Honda's sales in the Chinese market totaled only 645,345 units, a sharp year-on-year decline of 24.28%. Sales in December alone plummeted by over 40%, reaching just 66,765 units. Since 2021, Honda’s sales in China have declined for five consecutive years. Industry analysts attribute this prolonged downturn primarily to Honda’s slow transition toward electrification, insufficient smart technology capabilities, intensifying market competition, and the overall shrinking market share of Japanese automakers in China. To reverse this trend, Honda has revised its 2030 target for pure electric vehicle sales downward, reinforced its hybrid strategy, and plans to launch new models under its "Ye" brand in 2027. To regain growth momentum, Honda urgently needs to accelerate its transformation in both electrification and intelligent technologies.
