Researchers at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT-A) are developing an artificial intelligence and machine learning (AIML)-based semantic communication technology aimed at enhancing the safety and decision-making efficiency of autonomous vehicles. By transmitting only critical semantic information, the technology significantly reduces data volume, thereby accelerating a vehicle’s response to emergencies such as sudden obstacles. Unlike conventional communication methods that rely on large volumes of bit-level data, the new system effectively filters out redundant information, enabling faster and more accurate decisions even under low-bandwidth conditions. This advancement holds strong potential to substantially reduce traffic accident risks and improve the reliability of autonomous transportation.
