Hyundai Motor recently announced an order for 30,000 next-generation Atlas humanoid robots from Boston Dynamics for use in its U.S. factories. The new Atlas features higher degrees of freedom, autonomous battery swapping, extended operational endurance, and significantly enhanced cognitive capabilities. At the CES show in January, Boston Dynamics demonstrated the robot performing a backflip—successfully launching into the air and landing on both feet. However, due to the high impact force, the robot momentarily lost balance, urgently swung its arms to adjust its posture, and even flung off its hand guard before ultimately stabilizing itself without falling. Although backflips hold no practical value in actual manufacturing settings, this demonstration highlighted the robot’s exceptional dynamic balance and agility.
