Customer Claims O’Reilly Staff Misdiagnosed Brake Rotors, Sparking Online Outrage

From:Internet Info Agency 2026-02-04 07:00:00

A customer posted a video on TikTok alleging that staff at an O’Reilly Auto Parts store used an inaccurate caliper to measure the thickness of his brake rotor, obtaining a reading of 10.1 millimeters, and subsequently recommended replacement rather than resurfacing. The customer, Christopher, said he had brought the rotor to the store specifically for resurfacing ("turning" or "machining"). However, he claimed the employee neither used a micrometer as required nor took measurements at the six designated points. After returning home, Christopher measured the rotor himself and obtained a reading of 10.857 millimeters—well above the minimum safe thickness. He accused the store of making a hasty judgment to push new product sales and pointed out that O’Reilly’s official website clearly specifies the use of a micrometer and multi-point measurements. Many online commenters noted that O’Reilly is primarily a parts retailer, not a repair shop, and its staff may lack proper technical training; others advised going directly to a professional mechanic for such services. O’Reilly has not yet responded to the incident.
