A female customer recently posted a complaint on TikTok alleging that she visited a Mavis Tire & Brakes shop intending only to get a routine oil change, but was charged $1,300 after technicians performed unauthorized front brake repairs—despite her explicit refusal of those services. She stated she had only agreed to have her rear brakes fixed and emphasized she didn’t have time for any additional work. Nevertheless, the technician removed all four wheels and replaced the front brakes as well. Although staff later attributed the incident to a “communication error” and even offered her transportation assistance, she felt deceived and deeply unsettled. After contacting Mavis corporate headquarters, a regional manager acknowledged the mishandling but offered only a $100 discount toward a future visit. Her video resonated widely online, prompting many viewers to share similar experiences. Mavis operates over 1,300 locations nationwide and has received nearly 1,600 complaints through the Better Business Bureau (BBB) in the past three years. Experts advise consumers who face unauthorized repairs to file complaints with their state’s automotive repair board or dispute the charges with their credit card company.
