MG plans to unveil its all-new electric compact car, the MG2 concept, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this July, with the production version expected to launch in Europe by the end of 2027. Measuring approximately 4 meters in length, the MG2 will be positioned below the current MG4 Urban (starting at £23,495) and aims to enter a more affordable market segment. William Wang, Head of MG Europe, revealed that the MG2 may eventually offer a semi-solid-state battery variant using gel electrolyte technology, which would enhance both cold-weather range and safety. The MG2 is a key part of MG’s strategy to expand its European lineup to 18 models within the next two years. Additionally, MG will launch a large plug-in hybrid SUV, the MG S9, later this year. Currently, MG’s best-selling models in the UK are the HS and ZS hybrids, while its all-electric vehicle sales declined by 23% last year. The MG2 will be led in design by MG’s UK team, underscoring the brand’s strong commitment to the European market.
