In a video viewed 5.9 million times, a social media influencer shared a fueling tip he learned from an experienced truck driver: using diesel pumps specifically designed for semi-trucks significantly speeds up refueling. These high-flow pumps can deliver up to 32 gallons per minute—far exceeding the rate of standard diesel pumps. While the fuel itself is identical, heavy-duty truck nozzles are larger and may not fit older or smaller diesel vehicles without an adapter. Additionally, due to the high flow rate, fully opening the nozzle can cause fuel foaming or trigger the automatic shutoff prematurely. It’s recommended to press the handle only to the first detent to balance speed and safety. Commenters noted that for topping off small fuel tanks or portable containers, a regular pump is often more suitable.
