As of March 2025, NIO has built 3,737 battery swap stations and 4,877 charging stations globally. On March 10, during the company’s earnings call, NIO founder William Li stated that battery swapping and ultra-fast charging technologies are not mutually exclusive but rather complementary, playing a key role in accelerating the adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). He emphasized that automakers’ involvement in building charging and swapping infrastructure helps speed up the transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles. Last month, NIO achieved a cumulative total of 100 million battery swaps, with a total swapped energy volume reaching 5.28 billion kWh—saving users approximately 83.41 million hours compared to conventional charging, or over 88 hours per user on average. This year, NIO plans to add 1,000 new battery swap stations, bringing its total number to more than 4,600 by year-end.
