GAC Group recently announced the establishment of a Powertrain Business Unit (BU), integrating previously fragmented functions—including R&D, production, supply, and sales of powertrain systems—into an independent operational entity to achieve end-to-end integration across "R&D, production, supply, and sales." This marks another key step in GAC's self-owned brand restructuring, following the creation of the Hyper & Aion BU and the Trumpchi BU. As GAC’s first component-level integrated operating unit, the Powertrain BU will focus on diverse technological pathways such as hybrid systems, internal combustion engines, and range extenders, positioning itself as a provider of powertrain products, technological innovation, and comprehensive solutions. Centered around the IPD (Integrated Product Development) process, the BU will closely collaborate with vehicle BUs and the R&D system for enhanced efficiency. This move is a critical component of GAC’s "Panyu Initiative," aimed at supporting the strategic goals of achieving 2 million annual sales for its self-owned brands and investing RMB 50 billion in R&D by 2027.
