A TikTok user @exxtci recently went viral for replacing the spark plugs on his BMW himself. He explained that a dealership quoted him $300 to repair his BMW, which he said was worth only $4,000, prompting him to tackle the job on his own. As part of his “No Dad Help Needed” video series, he documented the entire process of his first-ever spark plug and ignition coil replacement—even using ChatGPT to assist with the procedure. Despite having zero prior experience, he successfully completed the repair and reported that the car started smoothly afterward. The video has garnered over 130,000 views, with many viewers praising his courage. However, some professionals have cautioned that the non-OEM “A-premium” parts he used could potentially cause future issues, recommending instead OEM or NGK-branded components. Experts emphasized that while such repairs can be suitable for beginners to attempt, they require patience, the right tools, and attention to detail—such as hand-threading the spark plugs initially to avoid damaging the engine.
