On March 19, GAC Group announced the establishment of a Powertrain Business Unit (BU), a key strategic move under its "Panyu Initiative." This marks another critical step in GAC's restructuring of its self-owned brand portfolio, following the creation of the Hyper Aeolus BU and the Trumpchi BU. The newly formed Powertrain BU integrates core functions—including R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, and sales—into a unified operational entity covering the entire "R&D-manufacturing-supply-sales" value chain. It will focus on diversified technological pathways such as hybrid systems, internal combustion engines, and range extenders, strengthening GAC’s independent innovation capabilities and product supply capacity in powertrain systems. Centered around the Integrated Product Development (IPD) process, the BU will work closely with vehicle BUs and the R&D system to rapidly respond to internal market demands and expand external market-oriented collaborations. GAC stated that this move will further solidify its ability to maintain autonomous control over its industrial chain and accelerate progress toward its goal of "Rebuilding a New GAC."
