Shougang Group and China FAW have recently co-developed a globally leading 2.4 GPa (2,400 MPa) ultra-high-strength hot-formed steel and successfully completed its application validation. While maintaining ultra-high strength, this new material significantly enhances toughness and resistance to hydrogen embrittlement. Compared with mainstream 2.0 GPa-grade materials, it increases the strength of door impact beams by 15% and improves crash energy absorption by over 10%. Under equivalent safety standards, components made from this steel can achieve a weight reduction of 5–10%, offering a revolutionary solution for lightweighting and enhanced safety in new energy vehicles. The material will be first applied to critical safety structural components in Hongqi models, effectively resisting deformation during extreme collisions—marking a milestone that places China’s high-performance automotive steel among the world’s leaders.
