Due to rising sales of Chinese-brand vehicles in Australia, VicRoads—the road authority of Victoria—has recently introduced new license plate dimensions specifically designed for vehicles manufactured in China. The issue arose because the original factory-installed license plate mounting positions on many Chinese vehicles are incompatible with standard Australian plate sizes, often requiring drilling or additional brackets that compromise both aesthetics and stability. The new plates retain the traditional black background with white lettering. Front plates measure 372×132 mm, while rear plates are 305×155 mm, both clearly marked with “VIC” (front) and “VICTORIA” (rear), and feature lettering that meets standard height requirements. These plates are tailored to fit popular Chinese brands such as Great Wall, Chery, and Haval without obstructing bumper-mounted cameras, ensuring uninterrupted functionality of advanced driver-assistance systems. The designated number series for these plates ranges from 8AA-1AA to 9AA-9ZZ, and the registration fee is AUD 175.
