General Motors is recalling 2,819 pickup trucks in the United States due to a safety defect in the roof rail airbag (RRAB) system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that on affected vehicles, the end cap of the left or right roof airbag inflator could detach, or the inflator’s side wall could rupture, increasing the risk of injury to occupants during a crash. The recall covers 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 models, as well as 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 Crew Cab models. General Motors will replace the affected components free of charge to eliminate the safety risk.
