From March 25 to 27, the 2026 China International Hydrogen Exhibition & Conference (CIHC 2026) was held in Beijing, attracting 523 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions. The event spotlighted the "ammonia-to-hydrogen" technology pathway, featuring a concentrated showcase of innovations such as ammonia cracking hydrogen production equipment. Compared with pure hydrogen—which faces challenges in storage, transportation, and high costs—ammonia offers significant advantages as a hydrogen carrier, including high hydrogen storage density (17.6%), lower storage and transport costs, and a mature industrial chain. Lujie Automotive unveiled an ammonia-hydrogen solution for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, which can reduce costs by approximately 33% while achieving zero carbon emissions. This solution is suitable for applications in heavy-duty trucks, marine vessels, construction machinery, and distributed power generation. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) noted that the hydrogen industry still faces challenges, including limited application scenarios, insufficient green hydrogen supply, and immature business models. Ammonia-hydrogen technology is widely regarded as a key pathway to overcoming hydrogen storage and transportation bottlenecks and accelerating large-scale adoption. The Chinese government has rolled out multiple policies to support the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia, aiming to facilitate the energy transition during the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period ("Fifteen-Five").
